New Members FloridaLilly Posted March 1, 2016 New Members Share Posted March 1, 2016 (edited) I just moved to Venice FL and over the last week or so, my toddler and I have been having fun with his sifting toys at the beach. We've started a little shark's tooth collection and are curious about a couple things we've found. I'm far more interested in teeth and fossils than I ever imagined I would be! But being a total newbie at this, I'd love it if anyone could point out certain teeth that they can identify. There are three pieces I'm most curious about, however, so I've taken close ups of those in hopes that someone can chime in! The whole collection so far: separated into a small tooth/specimen batch, and a larg(er) one. And the specific ones I'd like info on: #1: #2: #3: Thanks!! ynot
Welcome to the fossil forum! The first looks like a bull or dusky shark tooth. The second looks like a tumbled fragment of coral. The third looks like it is too much of a fragment for Me to identify, maybe some of the shark tooth experts can do better. Nice start to a wonderful collection! Keep on fossiling!! New Members FloridaLilly Posted March 1, 2016 Author New Members Share Posted March 1, 2016 (edited) Thanks, Tony! What a kind and helpful response. After some time surfing the web, I concluded Bull shark for the first tooth as well. Neat! Funny part is, I actually found that tooth in the parking lot as we were leaving. Turned out to be the best find of the day! I guess I've got the bug, I dreamt about finding teeth last night and took the toddler out again to a new beach today. Not a lot of luck this trip, but we invested in a "Florida Snow Shovel" for kicks. Lol! Edited March 1, 2016 by FloridaLilly
