Quik434
Hi all new to the board and I have been into fossils for a long time now. I came upon this one when I was in Italy last year. It was on a rock hillside in the mountains of Abruzzo. Does anyone have an idea as to what it may be? I was hoping it was a nice egg of some sort. It's missing both ends but the rest of it is still pretty well intact. It measures about 3 inches long. Thanks
Guest solius symbiosus
It it looks like a chert nodule to me. Does it have any structure?
Quik434
Oh...well that's unfortunate. It looked like an egg to me.
Guest solius symbiosus
It could be something. Does it exhibit any structure? Eggs are very very rarely preserved due to their delicate nature(that is probably not repetitive enough, they are a fluke).
Quik434
What do you mean by structure? I can take some close ups if you'd like. It has a rough skin whitish color on the outside and a grey dark grey shiny inside.

Guest solius symbiosus
Do you see any kind of structures to it/in it? Or, is it a micro-crystalline mass? If it is just a micro-xln mass, it is probably a chert nodule.
Guest N.AL.hunter
I agree that this is a chert nodule. Wish it were an egg though.
