Location: sulphur river

Conditions: hot as hades

Date: yesterday

I think I found a bacculite.

Thick fossilized oyster.

Piece of coral.

Piece of a large ammonite?

Some kind of snail.

? Next to the quarter.

Sure would be nice to know their scientific names.

The thick oyster is an Exogyra sp.; not sure on the brown thing; a black Baculites fragment; an eroded gastropod; a smaller Baculites fragment; and probably a Pachydiscus sp. ammonite fragment.

You should pick up a copy of the "Fossil Collector's Guidebook to the North Sulphur River" from the Dallas Paleontological Society. ;)

The usual snail like that from the Sulphur is Gyrodes major. John is right about the red ammonite. The species is Pachydiscus paulsoni.
