southland_mike
Location: sulphur river Conditions: hot as hades Date: yesterday I think I found a bacculite. Thick fossilized oyster. Piece of coral. Piece of a large ammonite? Some kind of snail. ? Next to the quarter. Sure would be nice to know their scientific names.
JohnJ
The thick oyster is an Exogyra sp.; not sure on the brown thing; a black Baculites fragment; an eroded gastropod; a smaller Baculites fragment; and probably a Pachydiscus sp. ammonite fragment. You should pick up a copy of the "Fossil Collector's Guidebook to the North Sulphur River" from the Dallas Paleontological Society. 2 The human mind has the ability to believe anything is true. - JJ
ynot
I agree with John on this one! (would be foolish of Me not too.) Tony Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Will Rogers said: " Some of them didn't spring far enough." My Fossil collection - My Mineral collection My favorite thread on TFF.

BobWill
The usual snail like that from the Sulphur is Gyrodes major. John is right about the red ammonite. The species is Pachydiscus paulsoni.
fifbrindacier
Nice baculites. "On ne voit bien que par le coeur, l'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux."
