FossilDudeCO
I don't know much about walrus, but I would think new Jersey is a pretty unique location to find one.

It would be a good thing to donate to a museum, either in New Jersey, or elsewhere. FossilDAWG
Sometimes museums can offer a tax deduction for significant donations. Worth asking about anyway. Don
Boesse
Probably not a whole lot of people out on the market looking for fossil walrus bones. However, if you donated it to our museum (Mace Brown Museum of Natural History), there's a pretty good chance it would end up on display!
LordTrilobite
Can't comment on the animal but it definitely looks like a humerus. Olof Moleman AKA Lord Trilobite
jpevahouse
Was this dredged from the NJ coast off Atlantic City? This summer I obtained a similar bone dredged off shore southern NJ which was identified as caribou by the State Museum. Caribou remains found here are rare and usually pieces of antlers.

jpevahouse
Yes, walrus makes sense. The clam beds off Atlantic City regularly produce Pleistocene walrus remains. That one, like the caribou humerus recovered last year are in unusually good condition. Usually they were very worn, partial sections of bone and tusk. Excellent and very scarce find.

jpevahouse
I live in NJ and have collected various fossils recovered off shore NJ for the last few years. I'm interested in the walrus humerus as a local fossil. If the state museum is interested and I think they might I'd donate the fossil? I donated the caribou humerus. Otherwise, I'd keep it for my collection. You can contact me though the forum. JP
