Uncle Siphuncle
I'm with you John. I like leaving Texas echinoids in matrix and cutting the base to form a pedestal. Great stuff. Grüße, Daniel A. Auspex
You know my opinion by now: matrix is O-Tay! siteseer
Yes, anytime you find a matrix piece with a nice tooth and a piece of bone or another tooth next to it, you should leave it alone, shaping down the matrix if necessary for its best presentation and to provide a stable pedestal. Sometimes, the matrix will dictate that anyway. It can be like sand and melt away in tap water or it can be like concrete and give your Dremel a workout. I love Matrix pieces! They display great. So here are a few STH pieces I've picked up over the years.
