Arizona Chris
Are there any papers available or known that extend the time domain of Tentaculites past the Devonian into the Permian? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Arizona Chris Paleo Web Site: http://schursastrophotography.com/fossiladventures.html
TqB
I don't think so, I've never come across Carboniferous references and this paper, for example, just squeezes them up to the end of the Devonian: Famennian tentaculitids Tarquin

Arizona Chris
That is encouraging! We have found several dozen of them in the Permian Fort Apache in the past month. The type we have found is constant ribs evenly spaced along their slightly curved tubes rather than a larger rib every so often like the illustrated genus. They are up to half an inch long, and very delicate. I do not believe them to be scaphopods of some weird type because of their small size and the tubes exterior of scaphopods are either smooth or ribbed along their length. Indeed, we have found two types of scaphopods as well, one with the linear ribbing and one smooth. They are huge in comparison, several inches long and up to 1/4" in diameter. The Fort Apache is Leonardian in age. Ill try to get some high resolution images this week. Leonardian is Lower Permian, which I think is Ok: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Arizona Chris Paleo Web Site: http://schursastrophotography.com/fossiladventures.html
