truceburner
An acquaintance found this in a Marble Falls (TX) thrift store - provenance otherwise unknown. With help from a capable lab assistant, the following pics were provided, with scale in inches. Might this be from a whale? Hoping we can narrow down the possibilities (and age) for the owner. Thanks in advance for your help!
Miocene_Mason
I do believe that is a whale vert, looks modern. “...whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been and are being evolved.” ~ Charles Darwin Happy hunting, Mason

caldigger
I am on board with the modern cetacean vert. It resembles a couple I have.

Max-fossils
I agree with the others for whale vertebrae. Though from the looks it seems modern, you can confirm this by doing the flame test. (Light a match on the bone: if it starts to smell, more likely modern, the smell caused by the collagen in the bone burning; if it doesn't smell at all, you probably have a fossil, and a mighty one too!) Boesse
Caudal vertebra, likely from a baleen whale. That's all that can be said - vertebrae are not diagnostic within most cetaceans.
