SpoonMan
Hi all, Was recently on a short break to Rottnest Island in Western Australia and found a bunch of these in the rocks near the beach on the east coast of the island. I thought they looked like giant isopods but have no idea when they are from or if I am remotely close? Any suggestions? Ta Dan

DPS Ammonite
Marine isopods, crustaceans, move around quickly on lots of legs; chitons, mollusks, have hard shells and move very very slowly. My goal is to leave no stone or fossil unturned. See my Arizona Paleontology Guide link The best single resource for Arizona paleontology anywhere. Thanks DPS Ammonite, as soon as I knew what they were called I found 'em on Google. You guys are brilliant :-)
Missourian
It is always a treat to see those critters clinging to beach rocks. Come to think of it, it is always a treat to be in the vicinity of a beach..... 1 Context is critical.

Miocene_Mason
I was at the beach once and I picked up a rock with fossil trilobites. That was until they started moving... 1 “...whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been and are being evolved.” ~ Charles Darwin Happy hunting, Mason

-AnThOnY-
@Coco I do not. I will have a look to see if I can determine, however, the link to the Polyplacophora files does not work It could also be that my current tank parameters only allow them to get so big, but I haven't seen any over 1/2" for sure.
