Irradiatus
wow - that is DEFINITELY a site you'll have to tell me about (unless you'd rather not ) "The fact that we live at the bottom of a deep gravity well, on the surface of a gas covered planet going around a nuclear fireball 90 million miles away and think this to be normal is obviously some indication of how skewed our perspective tends to be. Shensley
Wow, another collector in my area I'm only 45 mins away from the Ambridge site. I actually drive close to there on my way to work. If you're ever a bit farther west, let me know and I'll show you a couple spots in my area. I've found some really nice larger specimens at Ambridge. Once you get a feel for where the fern layer is, you can find quite large plates of them. There's also a marine deposit there above the fern layer. Go to the left and up the little embankment, into a woodsy area. The marine layer has a small outcropping there.
Shensley
Here's some of my finds from Ambridge last year. The most common I've found is Pecopteris and Neuropteris. Calamites are also abundant. I've found Lycopods there as well but all have been small stems.
Shamalama
Hmmm.... maybe I need to send Zoup and Shensley some St. Clair material in exchange for some of their Ambridge material. -Dave __________________________________________________ Geologists on the whole are inconsistent drivers. When a roadcut presents itself, they tend to lurch and weave. To them, the roadcut is a portal, a fragment of a regional story, a proscenium arch that leads their imaginations into the earth and through the surrounding terrain. - John McPheeIf I'm going to drive safely, I can't do geology. - John McPheeCheck out my Blog for more fossils I've found: http://viewsofthemahantango.blogspot.com/

Shensley
St Clair? Awe man, I get into talking St Clair PA and ferns and I have to go to work. *sigh* I'd trade my dog and hubby for a nice piece of white St. Clair material. Well, maybe not the dog... Irradiatus
That was funny. You guys posted your pics, and somehow I lost control of my body and found myself in my car at the roadcut in Ambridge. Apparently, I could not resist. That place ROCKS! Many many ferns and calamites. Ferns are a first for me, having never been anywhere they're found. Exciting! Pics later. Quick question, how do you clean these things (other than "carefully"). Will water harm them? I particularly don't want the black replaced material falling off. Hey Danial I just sent you a e-mail but Im glad you got up there, great place. There is another place a few miles more down the road. I mist them off with the hose let dry and coat them with a minwax clear satin spray. later Paul.
