hello I am very new to fossil hunting I have only hunted about ten times so far but I am loving it. I have already found several different fossils. but none that are close to me so far. does any one know of any places near macon ga. with high potential or any tips in general for me. I have took my son with me for the first time a few days ago and he loved it. just any most knows or locations near my area because truly I know almost nothing about fossils the little that I do know so far has come from youtube.

Welcome to the Fossil Forum from the Hudson Valley, NY. There are some members from Georgia on the Forum who may be helpful locating spots. You can also conduct a search and check out the state postings. Good luck.

Welcome to The Fossil Forum!

I don't know if it actually took off or nor, but the Georgia Paleontological Society did have its very first meeting back in January of 2017 in Macon.  I'm sure that some of our other Georgia members can tell you if the Georgia Paleontologial Society still exists or not.  If it does, societies like that can be excellent ways for people to 'get their feet wet' with other fossil collectors.

Hey there from Atlanta.  Sure there are wonderful fossils in the Macon area and certainly more south of you.  You are one lucky man living on the Fall line.

Contact one of your local mineral societies; they are really mineral AND fossil clubs you know.  Generally you can find out the local sites for fossils from the local rock hounds.  Best of luck.
