New Members Wood_Crate Posted May 1, 2018 New Members Share Posted May 1, 2018 I found this in a creek in northern Alabama. I’m not positive it’s a fossil. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Bone guy
Could be a pseudofossil, but I feel like it might be a worn section of tusk.
New Members Wood_Crate Posted May 1, 2018 Author New Members Share Posted May 1, 2018 Thank you for the feedback. Would it help if I posted more pictures?
Darktooth
Yes it would. A pic of the other side and something to show size of object. Also any geological info about the area it was found may help with ID. I like Trilo-butts and I cannot lie.
Darktooth
It also has a look like a shell fragment. 2 I like Trilo-butts and I cannot lie.
New Members Wood_Crate Posted May 1, 2018 Author New Members Share Posted May 1, 2018 (edited) I found this on a creek bank in Northern Alabama close to Muscle Shoals. If any other picture angles would help, let me know. Edited May 1, 2018 by Wood_Crate
ynot
That is the same side. Can You post pictures of the end, side and back? Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Miocene_Mason
Given the location, Carboniferous plant is my guess (sorry to muddy the water further). 1 Happy hunting, Mason
New Members Wood_Crate Posted May 1, 2018 Author New Members Share Posted May 1, 2018 (edited) Sorry for delay on posting the picture, busy day. My phone isn’t letting me post more than one picture for some reason. I’ll try to post pictures of all of the sides from my computer later tonight. mikeymig
I find fossil wood (limb, branches) in Devonian shales of NY that look just like this. Of course the normally rounded limbs have been flattened during fossilization and the carbonizied wood has been eroded away. 1 Many times I've wondered how much there is to know. led zeppelin
Miocene_Mason
Just did some research, it seems all surrounding rock formations are from the Mississippian, though rivers could have brought in Cretaceous. I am now pretty confident it’s fossil wood from the Mississippian period. 1 Happy hunting, Mason
