Shark tooth collecting in Maryland.

Nice megs! :meg:

I also have 2, from the same trip! One is a really nice cream colored one, the other is a not-so-nice jet black one. Both are just short of 3 inches at 2 3/4".

Every single fossil you see is a miracle set in stone, and should be treated as such.

Wow congrats on the megs!! I’ve never found teeth that nice in Maryland! I’ll have to try some of your spots the next time I’m back. That’s gotta be one of the nicest makos I’ve ever seen by the way! Just perfect.

Thank you! Ive been getting really lucky lately in some spots. I love finding these beautiful makos. Couldnt believe the megs either. Youve been finding some really cool stuff too I've been seeing. Those angustidens are some of my favorite teeth, I really cant wait for the day I have a chance to find one for my collection if I'm ever in an area where they're typical. Next time youre in Maryland let me know we can go on a hunt!

Hello Toothman ... when I was young and in the Indian Guides (the YMCAs equal to Boy Scouts) we would go camp at Calvert cliffs and find tons of shark teeth mostly small but my dad found a big (fills the palm of his hand sized) Mag tooth there and now that I am older and have a family I would like to do this with my wife and kids but Calvert cliffs isn't open for family camping. it only has group camping ... is there anywhere is your area that we could camp and maybe drive to Calvert cliffs or brownies beach or some of these areas you hunt. I was a blast when I was young and my kids (especially my daughter) love nature and I think this would be a cool thing. thanks for your time.

P.S. if you know any other fossil places in MD let me know!

Breezy Point is a family campground not too far from Brownies Beach. The sites are right on the sand by the water. If you are tent camping then sand stakes are a must. The wind can be fierce. There is a reason it is called "Breezy"Point". You can find teeth washed up at this site itself but they are mostly worn and beat up.

There is also Matoaka Beach Cabins.  They are 'rustic' cabins at the top of a section of the cliffs.  They have a a trail down to the beach along the cliffs.

Purse State Park is in Charles county, MD on the Potomac River. The fossils from there are geologically older than those found on the Chesapeake. The shark teeth are abundant and it's a site I would recommend if you were going to bring kids along (there is a short trail down to the waterfront).

I second this as a great place to camp!

Hello all, just joined the forum.  My first time hunting on my own July 13,2019 at Brownies beach. Everything in my collection came from the Tucson Gem and Mineral show.  I don’t think I did too bad.

Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!

Thank you.  I’m not very good at recognizing or figuring out the species. So I’m not sure which shark they came from.
