Yup, he's a diamond geezer right enough.

 

Thes two came to me as Cornulites proprius. I thought that's what they were when I saw them posted on the forum.

I thought it's what they were when they arrived here.

But now, looking at them more closely, one can see the vertical septal furrows, and comparing them to my other specimens,I now believe these to be the solitary rugose coral Duncanella borealis, a pretty little species found in the Waldron Shale.

Here is the specimen on the right:

There are no septa showing, but the species has a rather deep calyx so I think it's just full of matrix which can't be cleaned out without risk of damaging the epitheca.

The second specimen, not quite so obvious, but still a horn coral.

I managed to prize this partly pyritized Stegerhynchus whitii out of a piece of Waldron matrix with a trilobit in it.

A nice little bonus! :)
