lone5wolf117
Hello would this be some opalised bone and could be from a dinosaur or some marine reptile ?
Miocene_Mason
I don’t know but it sure is pretty! Doesn’t really have bone structure which is worrisome. “...whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been and are being evolved.” ~ Charles Darwin Happy hunting, Mason
Innocentx
That's really nice and I see the opalized areas, but no indication of bone. "Journey through a universe ablaze with changes" Phil Ochs
caldigger
What about this make you think it is bone? I would be more inclined to think wood.
Troodon
Also do not see bone. What I see offered on auction sites from Lightning Ridge includes shells and cycads.
izak_
Theres a lot of stuff that comes out of the site, but I don't think its bone. Wood seems likely. Certainly a nice piece of opal though!
Dan 1000
I believe opalised pine cones can also be found at Lightning ridge. Could be part of one?
Mike from North Queensland
Looks to be a possible vert but unsure would need other photos from other angles. Need a photo from where the left finger tip is square to the end as this shot gives a vibe of the end of a vert with a fragment of the next one attached. You will never see bone structure as such as these are a replacement fossil like steinkerns. Mike
The Amateur Paleontologist
I strongly agree with the others in that you've got a precious opal pseudomorph of fossil wood. Check this link for more information Hope this helped! -Christian 2 Opalised fossils are the best: a wonderful mix between paleontology and mineralogy! Q. Where do dinosaurs study? A.
