Preserving

I have this Three Toed Box Turtle shell that I would like to preserve.

What sort of preservative would be best to keep the original scute keratin from peeling off and also seal the entire surface of the shell? I would prefer a non glossy finished product.

I used to use spray lacquer on sharks teeth. That preserved them pretty well. I don't do it anymore though.
