hell creek micro jaw

Recommended Posts

i have found quite a few micro jaws from the hell creek in the past like lizard and fish jaws, however i recently went through some old finds and noticed a small jaw, and i have absolutely no idea what it might be. it doesnt look like fish or lizard to me. the length of the jaw is about 14mm.

Try editing their size with Lunapic, save the edited photo's to your device and then try to upload them.
When I first joined the forum I couldn't really upload pictures as well, but when you crop them with Lunapic it should work. :)

Probably because the Forum Software didn't like the .bmp format.

Try saving pictures as .jpg or .png files. ;)

Cropped and brightened.

Two possibilities come to mind an amiid fish jaw, Melvius is present in the HC or the reptile Champsosaurus.

The jaw looks fish like but has a weird structure and isnt as high as most other fish jaws.

I would go with cf. Belonostomus (Aspidorhynchidae indet.), here is my premax I’ll from Albian of Ukraine, I’m pretty sure they are also found in Hell Creek.

definitely Belenostomus... the central line of big teeth surrounded by two rows of fine teeth.  Good find.

Agree looks spot on, good ID .  Here is a dentary,  B. longirostris described in HC
