A Pleistocene Trip To Remember

Tracer Jr.

Recommended Posts

after carefully monitoring the tracking device placed in johnj's car, tracer and i decided to hit one of his top secret locations without his knowledge (i might be kidding). needless to say, it was a day to remember and we made several finds that are currently centerpieces in my collection. i'll let the pictures do the talking.

when we arrived on the first gravel bar, i could feel potential in the air. tracer would say i'm full of snarge, but this lonesome bar turned up two of our best finds to date.

after walking around for a while and not finding much except a bone fragment or two, this hefty object really caught our eyes as the water flowed around it...

after several pictures and lots of hoping, i picked the object up and realized that i was definitely holding my first good chunk o' mammoth tooth. after many very small fragments, this good sized tooth caused lots of joy very early on in the day. even if we hadn't found anything else, i would've been very happy. but several minutes later we stumble upon this...

when we saw it, we knew it was an artifact. after asking johnj, he believes it is a type of preform. that doesn't mean i can't call it a knife, right? either way, it is only the second stone artifact we have found ourselves, the first being a preform that was much larger and less worked. a great find in my book!

although the next find wasn't large and spectacular, it is still quite rare for texas. tracer claims i have good eyes for spotting it, but the pattern of the top was quite distinctive to me.

although i thought it was a piece of mammoth tooth, after removing it from the ground, it is very clear to be a mastodon tooth fragment.

quite a day to remember for two texas fossil hunters!

yeah, you're full of snarge, all right. it's amazing how you can make those bathtub pictures look like you were at a creek. hope you don't grow algae on your rubber ducky.

Your finds are wonderful, and I'm glad you had a memorable hunt! Just remember that there's a very fine line between feeling potential in the air and listening to the voices. :P

Those would have all cemented a serendipitous suite of relics and reliquiae for me as well. Any day that you get both mammoth and mastodon teeth is a killer day. Finding what you found in TX is about the same as finding the whole dang skeletons in FL! Now repeat after me......"To the motivated go the spoils!" - Congrats boys

Auspex, I think he's attuned his senses fine...the voices are just his Dad appropriately whining.

TJ, fantastic finds for Texas; that's why most of the time you see a local "human interest" story when someone finds something "mammoth". It is just a matter of time before you find your first dart point! It will be fun when you do....

(Hey, I just "swept" my vehicle and found several electronic "thingees" on which I've reversed the functions...you will be getting PMs soon - you know who you are!) :P

Nice finds!

(now since my tracking device on JohnJ's car is no longer working and those tracer guys live closer to me, I'll have to start tracking their car) Oops! did I just think that out loud?! :o
