So I found this little dude sitting pretty as could be in a rock pile up in Grand Isle Vermont. I am new to fossils and haven't learned about all the critters in my area yet. I think it's head armor? The area is dated to the mid Cambrian and the matrix is black shale. You can even see one little flipper thing on the left. (don't laugh at me I'm new! lol) So what is it?

There appear to be bits of shells, etc., embedded in the matrix.  Might be a trackway also, hard to tell from the photo.  Way too old for a flipper.  Keep looking, could be trilobites in that type of material.

I'm not seeing anything specific here. No head shield or flipper.

Maybe some bits and pieces, but not anything recognizable.

EDIT: According to this generalized geologic bedrock map, the area is dated from Cambrian to Ordovician in age.

I think the matrix you have retrieved is most likely Ordovician in age.

I’d bet you it’s crown point FM, Ordovician in age. When I visited that area that’s what I hunted in, similar rocks and fauna.
