Shellseeker
I believe it to be a tooth, but I am not familiar with the types of canines found at your hunting locations.. It has a shape roughly similar to bear but seems too small for bear. It might more likely be marine mammal. Look at this thread. New Members Jrs207 Posted June 6, 2019 Author New Members Share Posted June 6, 2019 (edited) Thank you for the reply. I’ve always hunted sharks teeth. Today I found this and was unsure of what it could be. Edited June 6, 2019 by Jrs207
hemipristis
NTB has a history of surprises. Fun place to collect, esp after dredging. I concur w/Shellseeker that I could be convinced that its a water-worn canine, but I'm not sure from what 'Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.' sixgill pete
Can you please provide us with some good close up pictures of the tooth. Resting on a neutral surface not in your hand so it is the central focused subject of the picture. Front, back and both sides straight on. Straight down on the root also. It is a very interesting tooth. Being the beach renourishment there is from offshore Oligocene beds, this could be an early whale tooth. If so, it is quite a prized and rare find. Possibly one of scientific interest. @Boesse Bulldozers and dirt Bulldozers and dirt behind the trailer, my desert Them red clay piles are heaven on earth I get my rocks off, bulldozers and dirt Patterson Hood; Drive-By Truckers May 2016 May 2012 Aug 2013, May 2016, Apr 2020 Oct 2022
