grandpa
Hello, TennCowGirl and welcome to TFF from Austin, Tx. You've found a great site to find answers to such questions. You will find a group of knowledgeable and helpful folk here, along with a lot of folks here to learn more, such as myself. I do not think what you have is a fossil, rather it is geologic. It looks to me like a seam of softer material (perhaps calcite) sandwiched in between what appears to me to be igneous rock. An interesting and attractive rock, but not a fossil. Again, welcome and keep bringing your questions.
Fossildude19
Welcome to the Forum. Could we get photos of the opposite side, and the two ends, looking straight at them? Also, please provide county found and something in the pictures for scale. Rockwood
Fossil that has been metamorphosed is something that should perhaps be explored.
