jkfoam
This past summer the wife and I took a couple of our Granddaughters on a vacation trip to Colorado, What a hoot. While we were there we took them to visit Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument. Then we visited a "Fee Collection" spot outside the National Monument where you can collect the Florissant fossil leaves and insects. For $10.00 they give you a box full of shale that you split to find the leaf prints. They furnish all the tools necessary and a nice shady table to work at. It is a real friendly collecting site for kids and adults. I had collected there about 25 years ago when it was like $10.00 per hour and you went in with pick axes and shovels to gater material you took back home to split later. Anyway the two Grands had a blast and we found some nice leaves. Unfortunately we did not find any decent insects, maybe next trip. Recently I cleaned up the kids leaf prints they found and put together a collage of the best finds and mounted them in a shadow box frame for display in their home. Pictures shown below. Auspex
I can just picture the activity at the table; what a great thing for the kids "There has been an alarming increase in the number of things I know nothing about." - Ashleigh Ellwood Brilliant “Try to learn something about everything and everything about something.” - Thomas Henry Huxley >Paleontology is an evolving science. >May your wonders never cease! DDD
Fantastic haul for what I presume to be a short stay at Nancy's quarry there after your trip to the Monument. Very nice collection. I make a pilgrimage there at least once a summer, but haven't come away with quite so nice a collection yet. You've set the standard for me for next summer Dan

Shamalama
Nice finds from a quarry that (at my last visit) looks almost played out. -Dave __________________________________________________ Geologists on the whole are inconsistent drivers.
