Ruger9a
Good afternoon folks. I have a seed pod that I purchased about ten years ago from Portugal that in dire need of an identification. All the information I have is it was found in Serra de Valongo, Portugal. And it was found in shale???? Help please.
DPS Ammonite
It is a steinkern, AKA internal mold, of a bivalve and not a seed. See this link for more info: http://paleo.cortland.edu/tutorial/Taphonomy%26Pres/preservation.htm 4 My goal is to leave no stone or fossil unturned. See my Arizona Paleontology Guide link The best single resource for Arizona paleontology anywhere.
Ruger9a
Well, that's a disappointment. I've had this mislabeled since I purchased it. Thank you DBS Ammonite for taking the time to correctly identify this fossil. I did post another seed pod identification request (#2). Can you look at that one and let me know if it's incorrect as well?
Mark Kmiecik
Yep, bivalve steinkern. Things look so much different from the inside out. I know. I've been fooled often. Mark. Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!
