Gastropods that doesn't belong in Austin Chalk formation

Creek - Don

Recommended Posts

This chunk of rock and several others were in the local creek next to the railroad track.  It appears these rocks were brought in for railroad erosion control next to the small creek runs parallels to the railroad track.  Also darker in color than surrounding chalk limestones, and full of gastropods normally not found in this area.   Are these Cretaceous gastropods?

Can you see something that would eliminate Turitella as a possibility? Since most of them appear to be internal molds the ornamentation would be missing.

Hi Bob,

Could be the Turitella, but wasn't 100% sure whether where it came from.   Never seen or found so many gastropods on Texas Cretaceous rocks before.

They are Cretaceous...quite possibly Weno Limestone.

Just curious if any of these match up to any of yours, some look very similar and I'm not too terribly far from you.

Yes,the external molds confirms Truitella. Very common here and abundant some places.
