FF7_Yuffie
I found this fossil hunting today. I am wondering if it is a small, fossil fish jaw. I can't think what else it could be. It is from the Dahan River, late Miocene. The place is marine, most of it is very fragmentary--small partial bits of shell. But I found this which looked curious. It is small, 1.3cm long. Hope the pictures are ok. Edited April 16, 2022 by FF7_Yuffie
pachy-pleuro-whatnot-odon
Doesn't look like fish jaw to me, the ribbing doesn't make sense in the watches are constructed in other animals. Rather, I'm thinking this could be a fragment the lip of a giant conch, something that seems supported by the flaky look of the other side of the specimen. It looks very similar to the archaeological remains you'd find in the Caribbean left over from conch axe construction. 1 1 'There's nothing like millions of years of really frustrating trial and error to give a species moral fibre and, in some cases, backbone' -- Terry Pratchett
