GreatHoatzin
I was visiting Fergus, Ontario, earlier today and found some fossils along the Grand River. I am unsure what they are: piece 1 (first 3 images) is definitely a fossil, but I do not know for sure what. Is piece 2 a fossil or some geologic formation? Piece 1 is ~1.5cm Piece 2 is ~3.5cm Piece 1 seems to include this protrusion. The hole from the first 2 pictures is outlined in red. Fossildude19
It may be a void where a brachiopod shell once was, but honestly, I can't see anything else fossil like about this item. 1 1 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." I was hesitant to think it was a fossil as well, but the large bulge (above the red circle in picture 3) made me think it was one.

Kane
Brach and bivalve steinkerns are fairly typical of this Silurian material. 2 ...How to Philosophize with a Hammer
GreatHoatzin
Here are some more of the same fossils from earlier, I’m guessing it may be some sort of bivalve at this point Edited December 30, 2022 by GreatHoatzin

The original void you posted and some the the most recent pictures are also likely the voids and/or remains where a brachiopod used to exist, not uncommon when the rock has been re-mineralized which is common in the Silurian dolomites. 1

Thanks, I wasn’t sure if it was a brachiopod or a bivalve.
