Bambiraptor Skeleton Project

Recommended Posts

LordTrilobite

So I was working on a Parasaurolophus and Dodo skull before. For my next project I've chosen Bambiraptor. It was nice to try something really small this time. Though it's quite hard to make some of the smaller details with such a soft material.

Carved from foam.

I'm mostly done with the skull. Just need to finish up the teeth and jaw.

Parts of the appendicular skeleton so far.

Alright here's a small update for you guys. I've painted the skull and most of the bones I made so far. The foam is so soft the individual piecesbecome a bit fragile, so the paint gives it a small extra layer of protection. This is aspecially true for the teeth. I might still do some extra layers to make it more solid in colour. I don't think I will make it any lighter than this though.

Painted skull and mostly finished jaw. I still need to cut the teeth.

Most of the shoulder girdle. Still needs a sternum.

An update. I've been working on some more bones for the pelvis. Which are not quite done yet, but I have the basic shape done.

And I finished the skull now. I think it turned out pretty nice.

That is so wonderful! Where do you get your foam from?

Thanks for all the positive comments.

This perticular block was actually just a left over piece I could have. It's isolation foam. It's kinda soft, so also quite fragile. But the softness also makes it really easy to carve.

Another update.

Shoulder girdle. I made the two parts for the sternum, glued the coracoids and scapulas together and started work on the right arm.

I finished and glued all the parts of the hips together and I have to say I like how it turned out. I also made the left femur.

Rally nice work. What kind of tools do you use for carving?

I just use a couple of really sharp knives. A bigger one for the larger shapes and a small one forthe fine details.

Update time!

Finished the humerus, ulna and metacarpals of the right arm. Still need to add the rest of the finger bones and radius.

post-3991-0-94653000-1395671557_thumb.jpg

Started on the left tibia. I layed it out over the (foot)prints so you guys can see it will look sorta.

Thanks for the update. I love your work! Do you rearticulate your pieces with wire then? Do you sell these, donate them or are they just a labor of love?

Thanks! for teh hips I used bits of wire and glue to put it together. The insides of the bones don't have wire in them though.

And at the moment I'm just doing this for fun and practice. It's a great way to learn more about anatomy. But who knows. If there's an interest for it, I might sell some.

I haven't been working on this project for quite a while. Mainly because I was busy with other stuff and my Gorgosaurus skull project. With the Gorgosaurus nearing completion, I thought I'd pick this little fella up again. So I started some work on the axial skeleton with the sacrum mostly done and now working on the caudal and dorsal vertabrae.

Alright, here's another update on the skeleton. I finished the dorsal vertabrae and continued on the tail. I got the first few flexible caudal vertabrae mostly done and I have the stiff verts at the end blocked out.

Phone for scale.

Update:

I've started working on the left foot and it's coming along quite nicely. I've also finished and attached the flexible part of the tail.
