Hutchinson Island,fl Beach Find

Atlantic side, along the surf line? We don't find too many bones along the surf here. Erosion of the coast line will dig into old deposits from previous warm periods, but the fossils are normally marine, like shells and stuff. So that is a rare find in the place you found it.

I don't know bones very well, so somebody else will pick it up from here. Take it away, bone people... :)

Not all that uncommon. Two famous Pleistocene sites with human remains in association with megafauna are on the Atlantic coast. Both within an hours drive north of Hutchinson.

As for the bone.. Being that size you are limited to just a few possibilities, assuming you are in fact in the Pleistocene. Proboscidean and the larger Xenarthra like the Megatheriidae. Some clearer pictures of the articulating surface will help tell which bone this is, which will lead to a better idea of which animal it belonged to.
