This was found on south Myrtle Beach a few days ago. It looks like part of a spine to me but I have no idea what species it may be from. Is there enough bone to make an identification?

Looks like a wheathered dolphin tail vertebra to me. I am not an expert, but maybe @Boesseknows what exactly it is.

Are good signatures really that important ?

Agreed, weathered vertebra from a small dolphin - but a thoracic rather than caudal vertebra.
