cathyliveedge
Hi, I'm new here, and I am so fascinated by fossils since moving to Arizona that I decided to get some real information. I live on the edge of Arizona and Nevada. I found this under a tree in my backyard, and originally thought it was birds. But every time I move it or turn it or get closer or further away, it changes. It's driving me crazy. Please can someone tell me what this is? It is approx. 7" high and 5" wide, coral like, hard but would break easily, I hope that helps. Auspex
"Birds"? I enlarged the images for a better look: If it is geological (not of human origin, as it is not a fossil), it could be weathered limestone or similar. edd
Yeahhhh, i see no birds... neither a fossil. Some sort of limestone or other geological material. " We're all puppets, I'm just a puppet who can see the strings. "
Pagurus
I could see it resembling something birds might leave behind. It's an interesting-looking rock, I think. Start the day with a smile and get it over with.

RichW9090
Arizona is the desert, and there are lots of carbonates in the soil here - caliche, etc. That's what it looks like. Edited August 17, 2015 by RichW9090 1 The plural of "anecdote" is not "evidence".
