FossilHunterStan
Hello, I found this at Beaumaris today. I think it might be a fossil coral. What do people think? Regards, Dan
tmaier
It doesn't look like a coral at all. The branching is going in alternate directions, very unlike a branching coral. It is hollow, not like a coral. There are no signs of corallite cups or septas. So, I think it might be a fulgurite. Those are a artifact left behind when lightening strikes the ground and fuses sand, dirt, and minerals together to make a branching structure similar to what you see here. http://www.google.com/search?q=fulgurite&btnG=Search&hl=en&gbv=1&tbm=isch https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fulgurite
abyssunder
I agree with tmaier, there are no coral characters. I'm inclined to believe they could be some kind of burrows, or maybe phosphatic nodules, frequently find at Beaumaris.
