Rocky Stoner
Here is another oddity (to me) that I found in my garden. Any ideas about this one ? Thanks.
Miocene_Mason
My guess is bivalve “...whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been and are being evolved.” ~ Charles Darwin Happy hunting, Mason
fifbrindacier
Probably the extern cast of a shell, i don't know wether it's from a bivalve or no. The identification would be easier and more precise if you could give us your location. And, besides 1 "On ne voit bien que par le coeur, l'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux." JohnBrewer
I agree with Fifi, an external cast. and welcome to the forum John Map of UK fossil sites
Rocky Stoner
Thanks for welcome, very kind of you. I found this in eastern West Virginia, US. My elevation is about 900' on a small ridge. Mostly shale, but bordering on Chert rock. Very hard limestone I suppose. Thanks again.
Rocky Stoner
Here are some features in the hard Chert rock. There's very little of it right where I'm at, but as the ridge gets higher, it is more prevalent.
fifbrindacier
In the third photo it looks like as if you had a very worn terebratule brachiopod. But i'm not sure.
