caldigger
Saw this on our favorite auction site. The only description is "ammonite from Madagascar". Something seems real funky about this guy. Is it carved to look like this? I have never seen one that has flattened out whirls like this.
Tidgy's Dad
That aperture is definitely carved, the rest of it looks assembled from bits to me except for the inner spirals which again seem carved. 1 Life's Good! Tortoise Friend.
Miocene_Mason
I agree with Adam. “...whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been and are being evolved.” ~ Charles Darwin Happy hunting, Mason
abyssunder
Maybe it's a "well-treated" specimen of something like this: 1 " We are not separate and independent entities, but like links in a chain, and we could not by any means be what we are without those who went before us and showed us the way. Wrangellian
It's a modern-day 'snakestone' from Madagascar (maybe) instead of Whitby, Yorkshire!

-Andy-
Quite certain it's been carved. There does seem to be original material in the middle, but this is little more than an art piece to me. Looking forward to meeting my fellow Singaporean collectors! Do PM me if you are a Singaporean, or an overseas fossil-collector coming here for a holiday! Seguidora-de-Isis
All of you have never seen an ammonite like this simply because it is not Terran! Note that the morphology of this fossil is bizarre, note that the coloration of the rock is 100% compatible with the Martian rocks ... Probably this fossil arrived on the planet earth, more specifically in Madagascar, brought by a meteorite. And this fossil simply proves that someday there was life on the planet Mars! It's a shame to fall into the hands of a private collector, because in my humble opinion, this fossil deserved to be studied by NASA!!! 3 Is It real, or it's not real, that's the question! Ludwigia
I've been noticing lately that the Moroccans and Madagascarians (or whatever you call them) seem to have developed the bright idea of carving their ammonites to look like they have tentacles coming out of their mouths. Although this one only has 4 of them, I still think someone was trying to make this impression. Greetings from the Lake of Constance. RJB
Odd lookin creature indeed. Anyone notice how the creature gets smaller all of a sudden as you follow the whorles around from the center. RB
abyssunder
That's something like how a Douvilleiceras turns to heteromorph.
