Stuff you found in a basement? You store it in a basement? You live in the basement? I'm intrigued!

Can't wait for a photo to finally emerge.

I only see two fossils in the pictures in the link.

This one is an imprint of a brachiopod shell:

And this one looks like an infilled burrow:

The rest are an assortment of river rocks, minerals, quartz, and coal, I believe.

I thought there was a flower in this rock.  I swear I can see the creatures inside the rocks, I’m gonna start some micro-surgery on these little guys and free them from their zillion year entrapment :)

This seems to be a piece of fossilized coral.  And the last photo is intriguing.  Not sure what those little black round things are.  Any chance of close up photos?

Yes, this seems to be a tabulate coral, probably Favosites one of the Favositida.

Interesting rock collection. So what's the story behind the obsidian pieces...and an entire box of it? We used to find it California in volcanic areas.

I found a vein of it inside a tube of molted sand in my basement.    I took a video of me pulling some of it out from the French drains but I can’t upload the video to this Site.  Maybe I could create a link to it to my Gmail account....... I’ll be rtback :)

I just noticed where you are? Maybe the black stuff with the luster is actually anthracite coal rather than a volcanic glass...maybe its all coal...hard to tell some times from pics...

How can I tell if it’s coal?  I scrubbed it clean in water.   It’s very sparkly. Some of it has rainbows and some is mirror like-

Sounds like coal to Me.

You can take a small piece and see if it will burn.

That pile looks like coal. Which would go along with an older house that was likely heated with a coal boiler or stove. Is there a slide looking thing ( coal shute) coming off one of the walls?

I tried to barbecue It  but it wouldn’t  catch fire.  A few pieces exploded!
