And yes ofcourse, I'll post pictures as soon as it arrives, probably one of me lying next to it to show it's massive size. 39 minutes ago, rebu said: This is huge and absolutely stunning I want one Yeah it's really amazing, it turned out great, I couldn't be happier with the result. If I have to make a prediction I would say, probably 5 years after I marry and the house is full of fossils and the hobby has gotten out of hand and my wife says it's enough no more fossils in the house and I start building a fossil shed. I think it's safe to say that will be the moment when I should open up for the public. Interested in all things paleontology, geology, zoology, evolution, natural history and science! ziggycardon
Some little acquisitions I received today which I got for a good price at an online auction. A Trilobite trackway of 315 million years old found in the Hale Formation, Cane Hill Member, Washington County, Arizona, USA A little opal-replaced clam from Coober Pedy, Australia (135 million years old) More fossils will be coming the next few weeks as I am planning on placing quite a few large orders this month. After that I will slow down a little bit and keep myself to my usual monthly fossil budget. 2 Interested in all things paleontology, geology, zoology, evolution, natural history and science! ziggycardon
Today I got a pleasant surprise in the mailbox! This amazing Iguanodontid caudal vertebra found in The Wealden Clays, Wessex Formation, The Wealden Group, Chilton Chine, Isle of Wight, UK (130 million years old), could be Mantellisaurus atherfieldensis or Iguanodon bernissartensis. I ordered it 3 days ago, but didn't expect it to arrive this soon! Very happy with this piece from the Isle of Wight was something that was very high in my collection wishlist. Always wanted to have an Iguanodon of Mantellisaurus bone as it's one of the dinosaurs that my country is famous for, and since there is no Bernissart bone bed material available for private collectors, this Isle of Wight bone is as close as it gets So happy me! I currently have it displayed next to my Iguanodon claw replica, just have to print an information card for the vert! 3 Interested in all things paleontology, geology, zoology, evolution, natural history and science! And yes they have, one of my top 3 favorite musea! During my student time when I studied animal care, we visited the museum with school and we had a guided tour through the invertebrate section of the museum as part of our "taxonomy" class. And I apparently impressed the guide so much with my knowlegde on living invertebrates, that she offered me a job to take care of the living invertebrates that they had I a special room in display in the museum! Still kinda regret not taking that opportunity, cause I think that would have been amazing! 21 hours ago, ReptileTooth said: Cool vertebra! ziggycardon
And today is the day that I've been waiting for, for quite some time! Today the life sized Spinosaurus skull wall mount arrived! The skull measures 180 cm by 95 cm and it's absolutely massive, I was kinda surprised to see a huge truck instead of a delivery van when they dropped this off. The skull is made by the amazing British paleoartist John Mac, most of the replica's I have come from him, the level of detail he creates is simply amazing. Needless to say I am very happy that it finally arrived! It's quite hard to get a grasp on the massive size of the skull, cause it looks way smaller on the photographs than it actually is. Me & the skull The skull compared to my 1 meter long Prognathodon jaw 5 Interested in all things paleontology, geology, zoology, evolution, natural history and science! ziggycardon
Yesterday I got one of my biggest fossil deliveries when it comes to quantity! It was a little bit a mix of fossils, microfossils, meteorites, volcanic samples and historical artifacts and a book. It was so much in one shipment I was even a little bit overwhelmed by it So here they are, most of them are part of a collection and some of them are probably not properly ID'd, will start a topic on those (mainly the Bull Canyon material & some Permian pieces) I was all quite a filler on my desk A snappin turtle lower jaw (Chelydra serpentina) found in River gravel of Gilchrest County, Florida (Pleistocene), if anyone is familiar with this location, feel free to share the aprox. age of the fossil found there, cause I can't really find much info on the age of the pleistocene fossils from that fossil location A Hemiauchenia macrocephala tooth found in River gravel of Gilchrest County, Florida (Pleistocene) A Maiasaura peeblesorum coprolite, found in the Two Medicine Formation, Montana, USA (75 million years ago) A Koskinonodon perfectus tooth found in the Bull Canyon formation, New Mexico, USA (227 - 208 mj) The newest additions of my permian collection! 3 Orthacanthus platypterus teeth, found in the Wellington garbar complex, Waurika, Okhlahoma, USA Both my oldest and my smallest shark teeth in the collection! Edaphosaurus boanerges sail spine & caudal vertebra found in Archer City Formation, Red Beds, Archer County, Texas, USA Dimetrodon limbatus sail spine, found in Wellington garbar complex, Waurika, Okhlahoma ID'd as a juvenile Dimetrodon limbatus claw, but not very sure about that one, but nonetheless an amazing little permian claw A collection of Eryops megacephalus fossils, a piece of dermal armor, a toe bone, a tooth and a skull plate. (But not sure all belong to Eryops) The current permian collection display in my showcase cabinet 3 Interested in all things paleontology, geology, zoology, evolution, natural history and science! A meteorite shocked belemnite fossil, found in the Norlinger Ries impact crater in Germany. A very nice cut Michelinoceras michelini found in Erfoud in Morocco (390 million years old) A piece of fossil material of Rhynie Chert, Dryden Flags Formation, Scotland, UK (396 million years old) And got these 2 microscope slices (for when I finally get my microscope) 3 Interested in all things paleontology, geology, zoology, evolution, natural history and science! ziggycardon
And I also ordered a lot of microfossils and matrix vial for when I get myself a microscope in the next 2 - 4 months. I got 3 vials of permian material from Waurika, Oklahoma, 1 vial of permian material from The red beds of Archer County, Texas 1 small vial of Conodont rich Mississippian material from the Chappel Limestone formation, Texas 1 small vial of Cretaceous Lower Gault Clay, East Wear bay, Folkestone, Kent, UK and a micropalaeontology slide with Jurassic Blue Lias matrix rich in holothurian material. I also got this book to help me ID my permian finds when I get my microscope Japanese star sand, Hoshizuna beach, Okinawa, Japan And I bought a lot of Triassic microfossil material from the Bull Canyon formation as I simply love the Triassic period. Now I know the Bull Canyon formation isn't that well described so I am aware some of the ID's are possible wrong, but I'll start a special topic for that in the ID section of the forum with better photos of said specimens as I know there are a lot of knowledgeable people on this forum A tooth listed as Sphenodont (Rhynchocephalia indet.) 3 teeth listed as Revueltosaurus (Pseudosuchian) 3 teeth listed as Arganodus lungfish teeth A tooth listed as Therapod indet. 2 teeth listed as Pseudopalatus which is a junior synonym of Machaeroprosopus (phytosaur) 2 Interested in all things paleontology, geology, zoology, evolution, natural history and science! Kilauea, Hawaii Very fine volcanic ash from Mount Quizapu, Chile from the eruption of August 9, 1967 I also got this amazing Carbonaceous meteorite And a small vial of Microtektikes from the Hell Creek Formation in Montana (66 million years old) And for the rest I got some cool historic artefacts And that was the entire delivery! Well almost... the seller forgot to send a Frankstown collection with multiple shark teeh, fish & ray fossils and a croc scute. So I'll get that somewhere next week and I am looking forward to it!
