ziggycardon
Go some very cool small fossils today! They are all from the Hastings Bone beds, Weald Clay, Wealdon of Bexhill, Wealden Supergroup, Bexhill, Sussex, UK (135 million years old) A Bernissartia scute, something I really wanted to have as a Belgian for my collection since the holotype was found in Bernissart, but since their is no material available from the Iguanodon mines for private collectors this is as close at it gets A small Bernissartia tooth And a collection of Hastings bone bed micro fossils, I can already see scales/scutes, pieces of bone, perhaps teeth, so who now what I might discover in their I will probably post my findings of the microfossil matrix in my microfossil topic 4 Interested in all things paleontology, geology, zoology, evolution, natural history and science! ziggycardon
Got the last part of my previous order in the mailbox today! The seller accidentally forget to include them with the rest of the items, but today they arrived. It is a Frankstown Sand fossils collection from as the name says, from the Frankstown Sand, Demopolis Formation, Frankstown, Mississippi, USA (Cretaceous, Late Campanian) Although it's not the exact same collection as was listed in the photo's, as some specimens that were listed are missing and other that were not listed are included. Unfortunately a Hybodus tooth and some shark/ray cartilage wasn't included. 2 Scapanorhynchus raphiodon texas (goblin shark) teeth, from the upper and lower jaw. (listing only listed one, so cool to get 2 instead) A Squalicorax tooth Chimaeroid jaw sections A croc scute Ray dermal denticles Anamoeodus latidens tooth Hadrodus priscus tooth Some ray teeth 2 Enchodus ferox teeth A Shark vertebra A shark or fish coprolite 2 Interested in all things paleontology, geology, zoology, evolution, natural history and science! Thank you, and yes, along with my ammonite display, this is the only of my displays that doesn't catagorize on age or location but rather on an animal. Most of my displays are usually specimens from the same geological era or period, or are from a certain formation but this is indeed an expection as it are teeth from all over the world going from the early cretaceous all the way to the pliocene. ziggycardon
Yesterday I have finally mounted my Archaeopteryx replica on the wall. It was currently displayed on my showcase cabinet, but I kinda expect the Psittacosaurus skeleton replica in the coming 2 weeks which is going to be displayed on that showcase, so it had to move Very happy with the result though While I was at it, took some other photo's while it was sunny. ziggycardon
I've been a little bit inactive the past 2 weeks due to a chirurgy from which I am recovering, luckily I've regained a lot of my energy these past days so I expect to be a bit more active again But here are some new aqcuisitions which arrived in the mail today The first is a Sequoia dakotensis pine cone found in the Hell Creek Formation, South Dakota, USA (66 million years old) Been wanting a Sequoia pine cone for a long time now, so I am very happy I've finally found one for my collection and in addition it's also a nice add-on to the Hell Creek display I also had a information card of a Sequoia with a small Sequoia branch included which makes for a cool display with the cone. The second item I recieved is a very nice replica of a juvenile Ichthyosaurus communis, found in Somerset, UK (around 200 million years old) It currently is the center piece of my British Jurassic marine life display. Here a full shot of that side of my fossil room, which is starting to fill up nicely 4 Interested in all things paleontology, geology, zoology, evolution, natural history and science! Ooh awesome, look forward to the print, I already have a few questions for the quiz (between 15 and 20 I think) but I still want to add a few more, then I have the polish it ofcourse and I want to do a few fact checks before I put in up, so no mistakes might snip in But yeah, it's coming along nicely, I think it will be ready in a week or two Interested in all things paleontology, geology, zoology, evolution, natural history and science! ziggycardon
Added a nice small block with Ichthyosaurus teeth to my British Jurassic marine life display! ziggycardon
Here are my latest additions to the collection which I recieved today! The first one I won at an auction for a bargain price! It's a rare fossil of an Agnatha Ostracoderm, one of those armoured jawless fish from the Devonian. It should be a Pteraspid sp. found near the River Dnister, Ternopil region in Ukraine (Devonian age, 419 - 407 million years old) This one I also won at said auction for a bargain price, it's a piece of lilac Grape Chalcedony found in Manakarra Beach, Mamuju Area, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. The rest of the items I got from my regular fossil shop along with some displays and materials. A very nice Crinoid (I suspect Scyphocrinites elegans) from Erfoud in Morocco (The seller listed these as Devonian 350 million years oldn but if I remember correctly I read on the forum these are from the boundary of the late Silurean and the early Devonian) A new and bigger piece of Gastornis eggshell (Ornitholithus) from the Eocene found in St. Antonin sur Bayon in France my older piece is part of the price in my contest A very pretty small Goniatites from Erfoud in Morocco (400 million years old) Squalicorax bassani found in Oued Zem in Morocco (70 million years old) 2 stray fossil sponge stems which are approx. 90 million years old. One was found in Lathum (The Netherlands), the other in Loenen (The Netherlands) but both originate from Germany. 2 Interested in all things paleontology, geology, zoology, evolution, natural history and science! Misha
Have not been on this thread in a while, Some really nice stuff you have accumulated. I really like that Pteraspid, I think Devonian fossils have to be my favorite in general because of the changes that went on then. Great collection so far. ziggycardon
And I've also made use of one of the new ricker boxes that I ordered along with the fossils that came yesterday It is the Frankstown collection that I recently acquired and while I placed the shark teeth that were with it in my shark teeth display I didn't really knew what to do with these. I though they were a bit to small to put in a ricker and that they wouldn't stay in place so I put them in the archive cabinet were I keep my microfossils and fossils that I don't put on display. But since I got some new rickers I though let's try and it turns out they fit perfectly and kinda look good in the box I am also kinda happy how the Pteraspid turned out in the showcase since I just bought it the moment I saw it due to it being a bargain that I forget to consider where to place it. But it turns out that it looks great among the other museum pieces in the showcase Same goes for the crinoid, didn't plan on ordering that one either and I had to do a bit of moving in the "first life" shelf before I could cram it in, but it turned out nicely! Very happy with the result! 3 Interested in all things paleontology, geology, zoology, evolution, natural history and science! ziggycardon
Got one very amazing fossil in the mail today, quite a rare piece which I didn't think of ever owning. It's an Arthropleura armata body segment found in the Silesia Coal Basin in Poland (Upper Carboniferous, Middle Pennsylvanian / Westphalian A - Rudzkiebeds around 315 - 310 million years old). One of my favorite and most rare fossils to date, really happy I was able to purchase it 2 Interested in all things paleontology, geology, zoology, evolution, natural history and science! Unfortunately not, the listing said it was a main axis segment meaning it's one of the armor plates from it's back but that's pretty much it, I don't think enough Arthropleura material is known to pinpoint it to a more specific place on it's body. 1 Interested in all things paleontology, geology, zoology, evolution, natural history and science! ziggycardon
Today I got a small package with some small but very nice acquisitions nonetheless. And I am still expecting 2 more fossil packages which I am very excited about as they will be 2 of my most rare and special fossils for my collection And my mounted Psittacosaurus skeleton along a few other replica's should be shipped soon, I got a message that the skeleton is almost finished and will ship before the end of the month. But while I am waiting for those 2 amazing fossils, here are the new fossils I've recieved today. A small set of dolphin teeth found in Hoevenen, Antwerp in Belgium. (Miocene age, 15 - 10 mya) I don't know the exact species yet, but that's why I started a post in the ID section of the forum. A small Hexanchus microdon tooth found in Khouribga in Morocco (Paleocene, 60 mya) A nice addition to my shark teeth display! And my first Gotland fossils! ziggycardon
Recieved two very cool and some of the rarest fossils in my collection today! A very exciting day! The first package was a Messel Gar "Atractosteus messelensis" found in the Messel Pits, Bituminous Shales, Messel, Darmstadt-Dieburg, Hesse, Germany. (Eocene, 47 mya). Really excited for this one for a couple of reasons: 1) I always wanted a Messel fossil, the location is just so amazing and well known, the preservation on the fossils is exceptional and I love the way how the fossils need to be preserved and prepped in resin because the oil shale is too fragile. A really cool location, amazing preservation and a cool history on the fossils. 2) I have always wanted a gar fossils, was the number 1 fossil on my wishlist since I have an obsession with predatory freshwater fish, especially the ones that are considered living fossils like gar, arrowana’s, arapaima, bichirs, etc… The second fossil is a piece of Stegosaurus gular armor, found in the Morrison Formation, Moffat County, Colorado, USA. (Jurassic, 156 - 147 mya) Gular armor is was the neck armor embedded in the skin of Stegosaurus and it acted chain mail to defend the animal from attacks. Usually not something I would buy easily, but this one was found in association with two dozens of other gular scutes, a couple of rooted teeth, some cranial material and some neck bones. And the material was ID by Paleontologist Dr. Ken Carpenter. In the listing the seller shared a photo of the associated material where this gular and a dozen of others where found with. And this is an example of where the gular armor would be. 1 1 Interested in all things paleontology, geology, zoology, evolution, natural history and science!
