Things have been a little chaotic in our house between vet appointments and regular appointments, trying to finish murals for the school and trying to organize some semblance of a birthday party for my soon-to-be 6 year old. Sara had a wonderful visit with us and although there aren’t many photos, there are lots of memories. Covid made it difficult to go out and do special activities which was a real bummer. We wanted to take her to Jurassic Forest but unfortunately they have not reopened yet. We had some pretty nasty weather as well which also put a damper on things (haha). Thunderstorm after thunderstorm and super high winds. She was introduced to all the pets and wasn’t impressed with the cat Tia, who just wanted to knock her off the table...or the chair...or the bed...lol. She had a nice long chat with Evie, our bearded dragon. Taught her all about her ancestors during a sleepover. The leopard geckos Luke and JoJo put her up in one of their houses so she lived in the lap of luxury haha. She even got “saved” by super Luke. I’m convinced it’s just Luke because we’ve never seen them in the same room together. Sara also helped paint the murals I’ve been working on for my girls’ school and we did some indoor gardening. My youngest Adina had me fashion a little travel pouch for Sara (please excuse my shoddy sewing skills lol) and a mask for her because some of the stores we visited required them. Overall, it was a fun adventure and she is on her way to visit @Runner64! We hope she has a safe travel and makes it there in a timely manner. Hope everyone is staying safe out there. Unfortunately, with the school year starting back up, we did not have any time to make it out to any fossil collecting sites. Luckily I did have some Mazon Creek nodules to crack open and some in freeze-thaw cycles! First thing Sara needed when she got here was a quick snack. She might be small but I had to forfeit a lot of my fern fossils for her! Next, after surveying the freeze-thaw cycle, she wanted to start whacking the concretions: She has a lot of work ahead of her.... Some of the fossils Sara was able to find this week that may be going with her: Calamites- “Blob” (Jellyfish) - Ferns - Vascular plant tissue - I believe this is called a Cyclopteris - Unknown - She sure has an eye for finding flora! If only she were here longer to help me crack these open (it’s a lot easier watching her than cracking them open myself). The next 4 days I have off work, and she plans to accompany me each day (besides tomorrow, car will be in the shop) on a fossil to some interesting places.
