Science on the Half Shell:
How and Why We Study Evolution
On Display at the Museum of the Earth in Ithaca, NY
September 24, 2010 to January 16, 2011
Come check out our latest temporary exhibit which is all about bivalves - clams, scallops, oysters, mussels, and more. Did you know that there are over 20,000 different species of bivalves living today? In this exhibit, you'll learn about bivalves, from the tiniest to the largest, through touchable models, real specimens, and hands-on activities. We'll also explore how scientists are using this varied group of organisms to study evolution and how they are unraveling the Bivalve Tree of Life, part of Earth's vast evolutionary tree.
Please vist http://www.museumoftheearth.org/ for directions and hours. ***The museum is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays!***
Note: I have personally seen this exhibit and it is definitely worth the trip. It is much more than just words and fossils. It also examines modern species and the displays are fun, innovative and informative! If you haven't gotten a chance to see the museum, now is the best time to go! Enjoy!
