Troodon
The Pubelo Inn Venue is primarily noted for high end jewelry, minerals, trinkets and beads. It has a few meteorite dealers, and a couple of fossil dealers. One being a very large Moroccan Tent dealer selling well lots of "art" and some good items. Parking is in an adjacent lot $5 or $10 with a short walk to the venue. Images from the Tent

Thats what they are and a big part of their offering are ammonite fragments or chunks and those are not cheap. A lot of their customers purchase these to display as ART and not as a fossil. Ammolite is considered a gemstone.

I posted this comment from the 2016 show "I was looking for a large Plesiosaur tooth from Morocco so I stopped by this new venue, a long line of tents of Moroccan dealers. Quite an eye opener, most of the fossils were fake, even the larger Otodus shark teeth were extended. I did not find the tooth but while I was passing by a tent saw a buyer purchasing a bunch of very large +4" trilobites. He made the following comment to the dealer while chuckling " I know they are fake but boy do they sell" Wow very disturbing. So lets not quickly say that these items are being purchased out of ignorance"

A seller omitting such an important material fact has some serious ethical challenges. Most people do not want to buy things under such a buyer beware basis. Thankfully we have better enforcement of ethics in other areas such as airplane parts and pharmaceuticals. All the rock and gem shows that I have been to have codes of conduct that prohibit the selling of reproductions that are not labeled as such. If the items are not accurately labeled then they are required to be put away and not sold. I wonder how many venues in Tucson have similar rules. 1 My goal is to leave no stone or fossil unturned. Troodon
Well if you are a member of the AAPS you do have it written in the application but none of these dealers are part of that. I doubt that these venues have that in their contracts and I just looked at the 22nd shows and did not see any mention. These big show and the one in Denver or NY/NJ is a buyer beware show. You may not like it but that's reality. https://www.aaps.net/pdf/membership-application.pdf

I am 100% in agreement that many of these specimens are hacked together from many distinct fragments but I don't think this specific specimen is a fake. siteseer
14 hours ago, Troodon said: 2021.... Some changes are in store for those coming to the show next year...this is what I know with the 3 key fossil venues. Days Inn Venue (formerly the Ramada) ..old old motel but it the best venue for fossils. Parking although tight you can always find a spot. Under new ownership but they want to keep their show and I do not hear of any major changes which is good. 22nd Street Show...most fossil vendors do not like the show, lots of issues ... Eric Miller and In the Beginning Fossils (Jared) two key fossils dealers say they are moving to the Market Place on Oracle. Jared has already a presence there. Not sure about the very few remaining ones but every year there are fewer and fewer. Tucson Hotel City Center..(formerly Inns Suite).. This is the Arizona Mineral and Fossil Show....its moving to the El Conquistador Tucson a Hilton Resort, in Oro Valley (2021-2026). Its basically 11 miles north on Oracle but its on a local road lots of daily traffic and tons of lights. A 30 minute drive from THCC. The resort is beautiful and a far cry from the old rundown THCC they are currently in and it has lots of parking which currently does not exit since U Haul built a facility on their old parking area that was used for the show. This would be the perfect place if all the fossil dealers moved here but that's not happening. However I hear that 54 existing dealers, including some of the fossil ones have agreed to stay at HTCC since the New Owners of the Hotel want to run a show. I do not know if there are any legal ramifications with those staying, the Hotel Owners and the Arizona Mineral Show but not going to worry about that. I hear that the Black Hills Institute is moving to the Market Place building but could not confirm that. The Arizona Mineral and Fossil Show always put out a guide so will know whats going on before everyone arrives. Not sure how the new HTCC promotion will be so will take a wait and see approach. El Conquistador Tucson Press Release from the Promoters: https://xpopress.com/news/article/146/its-official-we-are-moving-in-2021 Hi Troodon, I heard at least some of the dealers that left the 22nd Street show because of the dust always blowing in and around. Parking was bad too. Jess
