Found Hiking is it just a weird rock or skull

You have misunderstood. It's the other way around. See DPS Ammonite's post in reference to your question. Limestone fizzes, chert does not. Here is a link about bone, which this is not.

    Rock.

    Mercan fosil

I thought you might already know, since you posted under Fossil Hunting Trips. It would have been better to post under Fossil ID. Looks to me like a burrow.
  6. I'm not sure myself what this might be, but I could at least suggest that you check out this publication from Dolf Seilacher, the eminent authority on trace fossils, if you're not already familiar with it.

    Mercan fosil

I do not know exactly. Fossil trapped in rock. If anyone knows, please write.

    Mercan fosil

    What is it?
  10. Real fossil, phosphatized skeleton, quite good preparation.
  11. Finished fingers, tail, probably some ribs. I have been collecting them in Moravia for many years.

    Unknown Fossil, Maryland, Calvert County

Welcome to the forum! It looks like a sand dollar fragment from what I’m seeing. You’ll find them pretty frequently in Calvert. There’s some that I’ve kept. I hope this helps you out.
  13. Some more pictures of the other side slab.
  14. Hello everybody, Recently I bought a fossil wood slab from a stone dealer. I liked it because I think it shows some signs of rotting or other damage. All the dealer knows is that is is from Java and that the locals hunt fossil wood by poking the soil of rice paddies with iron bars. When the bar hits rock they can tell by the sound whether it is a rock or a fossil. As there are many sites in the island of Java I would like to know whether a more exact location can be determined. To me it looks like the slab was taken at a bifurcation of the main stem or trunk and a side branch. The side branch is black in the middle and appears to have lost its growth rings. My guess is that this is caused by rot. The main stem looks to be affected as well or is it bark growing into the wood or is part of the wood charred? Any thoughts which species of tree it might be? Information about this or anything else you'd like to share is welcome. Pictures were taken using an iPhone, the detailed ones using a magnification app.

    Hello everybody

Hello, My name is Kees. I am from the Netherlands. In the seventies as a primary-school boy I used to read every book on dinosaurs in the local library and collect stones with the imprints of shells on the Baltic beach of Neukirchen. Fast forward 2024 I bought a fossil wood slab from a stone dealer which rekindled my interest in fossils. I am not going to start a large collection that will gather dust in boxes but plan to buy the occasional one with display qualities. I am intrigued by fossils showing signs of infestations and diseases and specimens telling us more about the way the animals lived, e.g. with food in the stomach or wounds caused by enemies or accidents. In my next entry I will ask for an ID of the slab I referred to above.

    SE Texas - Femur from?

@Shellseeker This was a thread from 2016... did you ever find out what this femur was from? Complete... this might have been around 13 inches I think? I couldn't help but notice how deep the trochanteric fossa is on yours as is mine. https://www.thefossilforum.com/topic/65530-a-femur-story/
