RJB Posted November 18, 2019 Posted November 18, 2019 I picked up my middle son today and off we went to 'The Fossil Shed' to pick up some fossil stuff and bring it home for me to work on. A truckload I tell you! Haven't seen some of this stuff for about 15 years or more!!! What fun. Forgot lots of what I had/have including some very nice surprizes!!! I have a heck of a lot more to go through but this is it for now. RB My son was looking through boxes in my shed and yells out, "dad, I found an intire box of mammoth teeth". I had no idea I had any left!!! I also thought that all my echinoids were gone too and then I run into this freakin BEAUTY!!! 20
Tidgy's Dad Posted November 18, 2019 Posted November 18, 2019 Mammoth mouthful of teeth. And a couple of gomphotheres as well, it seems. Love the echinoid, Dendraster? It really is a wonderful specimen. How marvelous to be able to go on a fossil collecting expedition in ones own shed. 5 Life's Good! Tortoise Friend.
sharkdoctor Posted November 18, 2019 Posted November 18, 2019 How does one purchase entrance into this magical shed? It looks like a better hunting ground than any site I've ever seen 2

Praefectus Posted November 18, 2019 Posted November 18, 2019 I wish my shed was filled with hidden fossils. Congrats on a successful fossil hunt 1
Heteromorph Posted November 18, 2019 Posted November 18, 2019 The Magical Mystery Shed sounds like a pleasant place to be. 1
Randyw Posted November 18, 2019 Posted November 18, 2019 I wanna spend a couple hours in there with a wheelbarrow and a u-haul! mammoth teeth! 1
FossilNerd Posted November 19, 2019 Posted November 19, 2019 I’d settle on a peek through the window of the shed. What a view it would be! The teeth are amazing, but that echinoid is beyond words! 1 The good thing about science is that it's true whether or not you believe in it. -Neil deGrasse Tyson Everyone you will ever meet knows something you don't. -Bill Nye (The Science Guy)
goatinformationist Posted November 19, 2019 Posted November 19, 2019 I would love to see that collection. Of course I would wear boxing gloves and a straight jacket to keep the fingers from getting sticky. 1
RJB Posted November 20, 2019 Author Posted November 20, 2019 A rather large and very nice Gastropod from the state of Washington. The rock around this snail came off in big pieces and decided to glue it back together. One can now see the inside of this concretion where a snail sat for millions of years!! Didnt seem very neato at the time but now, looking at it again,,,,, purty dang neato!!! RB 3
Tidgy's Dad Posted November 20, 2019 Posted November 20, 2019 Mucho neato. 1 Life's Good! Tortoise Friend.
RJB Posted November 20, 2019 Author Posted November 20, 2019 My youngest son came over today and I asked him if he would bring in some of the boxes in the back of my truck. He couldn't wait to go through them. He loves going through all my old boxes knowing full well that there could be some very cool stuff! Certainly didnt remember having this concretion!!! RB Im the only guy in the world that took the time to make some of the better clams from Scotia Bluffs to make them look real pretty!!! I believe this is a flower? Super cool no matter what it is!!! A close up. 4
Tidgy's Dad Posted November 20, 2019 Posted November 20, 2019 An incredibly beautiful flower. And i do think those clams look pretty pretty as well. 1 Life's Good! Tortoise Friend.
Randyw Posted November 20, 2019 Posted November 20, 2019 Great looking pieces! Those clams are the best I think I’ve ever seen. I think you are right and that is a flower... but I’m often wrong! LOL! 1
RJB Posted November 20, 2019 Author Posted November 20, 2019 Im having a lot of fun going through my fossil boxes that I havent seen for about 15 years. Ran into this BEAUTY!!! This is the biggest bestest and largest fossil mussle shell Ive ever found!!! I think this is Mytilus californianus from the Falor Formation in Northern California. RB 5
Tidgy's Dad Posted November 20, 2019 Posted November 20, 2019 Monster! 1 Life's Good! Tortoise Friend.
Monica Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 Amazing stuff, Ron! I especially like that gigantic mussel - WOW!!! 1
jcbshark Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 Where can I sign up for one of these “shed” or “truck” hunts Ron? You’ve got some real beauties there 1 Every once in a great while it's not just a big rock down there!
RJB Posted December 1, 2019 Author Posted December 1, 2019 I finally got around to opening up some homemade wooden crates that held a bunch of my fossil fish stuff back when we moved from California to Montana. Haven't seen this stuff for 15 years! My son pulled this out of one of the boxes. Looks like a hunk of cow poop with the tail end not done and glue running down the top side but with a small bit of work and some rock trimming it could look purty nice. First and only stingray I ever found. Not in the best of shape and certainly needs some preppin, but one can easily see what it is. This is from back in the day when I would paint/stain fish to make them look better. Uuuuugh!!! Bad picture, sorry. I got this fish from Ulrick. Last fish I bought from him too. Has head problems. I was never happy with this fish. A super Duper Double Bird track i found sooooooooo many years ago. I thought I had lost it? Nice to see it again. My son saw this and about flipped out! Super nice jaws on this Phare and lots of mean lookin teeth. I just might have to give it to him? Not a good picture, but one of the best Mio's Ive ever found! A rather large one but with both dorsal fins sticking up! Not something you see everyday! 3

Wish the shed behind my house was full of fossils instead of yard tools! Great stuff @RJB! Glad you have been able to recover some of your “lost” treasures!
