Wow... In the first couple pictures I thought I was looking at a heteromorphic ammonite!

I know, right? I thought it looked like some kind of a cross between an Aegocrioceras and a Glyptoxoceras...

Opalised fossils are the best: a wonderful mix between paleontology and mineralogy!

Exactly. Even the shape and curve of the segments look like one of those.

This is why context (visual and stratigraphic) is so important for ID!
