hokietech96
Hi. For Father's Day my kids got me an electic microscope. I have been picking through Lee Creek matrix that I purchased to get me through quarantine. I am really not familiar with smaller teeth so it would be greatly appreciated if anyone can confirm my ID. Enjoy the pics. For all the Dad's, I hope you had a great Father's day! This tooth is 2-3mm. I thought it was small tooth sand tiger but the root seems rather large. I have been all through Elasmo.com and I cannot find a match. The next 2 teeth cusps and the blade remind me of a mackerel but the root does not match a mackerel so I am kind of at a loss.

hokietech96
@GeschWhatThanks. I know I posted alot of pictures. These seem to be the most interesting ones that I not 100% sure what they are. I probably found 500+ teeth from the matrix and I am still going through it.
GeschWhat
Going through matrix is so much fun and therapeutic. I spend a good part of the winter doing that. Lori www.areallycrappystory.com/fossils www.facebook.com/fossilpoo
Praefectus
Wow, you sure found a lot in that matrix. Nice microscope pictures. I think some of your cusped teeth might be catshark teeth. The bramble shark tooth looks like a worn galeocerdo or galeorhinus tooth.

I assume your are refering to the first pic. The root being larger than the blade was throwing me off.

I'm not sure about the first tooth, but the second one looks like it could be catshark with part of the root missing. Wow. The serrations on your last tooth are really nice!

Heterodontus disappeared from the fossil record along the east coast after the Oligocene. They are known from the Cretaceous, Eocene and the Oligocene of North Carolina. But they disappear after that. All extant Heterodontus are found in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. I’ve never collected that matrix and don’t really know the IDs of that time period well. hokietech96
@sixgill pete Thanks for your insight. Do you think it is amber like I thought or nothing? Any thoughts on the other teeth?
sixgill pete
Most of your teeth appear extremely worn for Lee Creek. They must have come from the newer dark colored matrix that has been prevelant for the last 6 or 8 years. That makes them harder to positively identify. The older matrix was much lighter in color, the teeth more tan, blue, blue/gray or grayish. The tooth you have labeled as thresher is definatly that. The others would take some time to look at other than the C. maclotti and the Scyliorhinus. The bramble is definitely not a bramble. 5 Bulldozers and dirt Bulldozers and dirt behind the trailer, my desert Them red clay piles are heaven on earth I get my rocks off, bulldozers and dirt Patterson Hood; Drive-By Truckers May 2016 May 2012 Aug 2013, May 2016, Apr 2020 Oct 2022

What would you say it is? It could be amber, but the amber from there is usually very dark. Try to take better pics from all angles. And try to get good measurements. 1 Bulldozers and dirt Bulldozers and dirt behind the trailer, my desert Them red clay piles are heaven on earth I get my rocks off, bulldozers and dirt Patterson Hood; Drive-By Truckers May 2016 May 2012 Aug 2013, May 2016, Apr 2020 Oct 2022
