Hello From Long Island

Hi there! I'm Rachel, a newbie to the forum from Long Island, NY. I have a Master's degree in geoscience with a concentration in paleontology, but I'm currently finishing up my last semester of law school (big career change, I know). During my Master's I studied Pleistocene proboscideans (mainly American mastodon) from Saltville, Virginia.

I don't know much about invertebrate fossils, but I'm planning a trip to St. Leon, IN soon and I'm so excited to find some Ordovician fossils! I'll post pics once I go if I find anything cool.

Hello, Rachel, and a very warm welcome to TFF from Morocco.:)

The roadcut at St.Leon is a wonderful place, it seems it's impossible not to find a nice selection of Late Ordovician fossils.

The roadcut at Lawrenceburg, not too far away, is also well worth a visit.

I'm lucky enough to have a decent collection from both sites thanks to the generosity of forum member Ralph. @Nimravis

Good luck!

Well Hello Fellow Proboscidean lover. My Ph.D. was earned studying Gomphothere's. Not many of us around. We have to go to the specimen and not many specimens to be found. What an interesting path you've chosen. My personal opinion is to stay the course with law. I was never hired for my knowledge of elephants. But environmental work came with the territory. I am actualy off the a job site, but hope we can chat soon.

Best

Brook Hall Ph.D.

Hi and welcome from the suburbs north of New York City. I visited St. Leon for the very first time last year, one of the most rewarding sites I've ever been to. I doubt I used my hammer even once. There were plenty of wonderfully preserved fossils, especially brachiopods, just lying about on the ground ready to be picked up. Spent an entire day, but it hardly seemed like enough. Good luck there. I plan to return in September.
