Pliocene/Pleistocene bone fossil most likely. I can't say what it may have been though.

If the color lightens significantly when it dries it may be modern however.

i would do a burn test to see if it is fossilized.

Current bone will burn and smell of burnt hair if exposed to a flame and a fossil will not burn.    There is not a lot left of your bone to make a good id,   more photos of all sides and a good size measurement will help though it may not be possible to get a sure id.

Won’t that damage it though?

only if its modern and there would only be a burn spot on the modern bone seeing as most rocks (fossils) don't really burn
