Sylv
Hello, I found this on the beach at Brighstone, Isle of Wight, UK. It's renowned for fossil finds. I often find interesting stones and would love to know what they are.

TqB
It's a flint nodule. Nothing fossil visible I'm afraid - they come in all sorts of odd knobbly and bony shapes.. 2 1 Tarquin

Sylv
Thank you very much for letting me know. I shall return it to the beach and keep on looking for those dinosaur bones!
DocBee
Hi Sylv, yes, I'd agree that it's sadly just a flint. Talking of dinosaur bone, here's one I found a few years ago at your location on a guided fossil walk. Notice the linear structures visible along the bone and the sort of pitted ends? That's what you need to look for. Happy hunting! 1
Sylv
Thank you so much for showing me this. We intend to go on a guided fossil walk ourselves after lockdown and when they restart. But in the meantime I've now got a better idea what to look for thanks to you. We've just come back from the beach now. It was heaven, even in the rain!
