pleecan
Like the Burgess Shale deposits... Changjiang deposits contain soft bodied preservation. I was reluctant to bid on a fossil from China having been burned in the past.... My bid 99cents + $20 shipping Ebay fossil from Changjiang Biota arrived a couple of days ago.... having lots of fun sudying under a microscope.... the 3" x3" worm fossil plate was covered with fragments of preserved worms from the Cambrian period.... at least 2 species of worms / worm like creature on the fossil plate.... one black, one redish in color.... will post images in the coming days. Attached is believed to be Paleoscolex Whittard 1953 ... Excellent cuticle preservation rare as noted by JB of Cambridge UK. Now I know who has been bidding up the actions I've been watching Anyways, I hope to see some Chengjiang in Tucson next week. Yeah, there will probably be some soft-bodied stuff there. I know the guys at Nord Fossils and Natural Canvas are very knowledgeable about that.

Plantguy
Hey PL, very interesting critters you have there. A real heck of deal for $0.99! So what kind of magnification are we looking at...how big are these little dudes if the plate is 3 inches square? This link http://www.fossilmuseum.net/Fossil_Sites/Chengjiang/Kunmingella-douvillei/Kunmingella.htm says 3-5mm? Tiny! It also shows a reconstruction of what one would look like...I'm not sure I understand the drawing as it relates to the "double" shell, still fascinating. Regards, Chris

Regards, Chris Yes that is correct Chris... 2mm carapace on the longest axis... really tiny.... there are so many critters on this little rock.... most require microscope to see properly the fine details... I can't remember the mag setting as my microscope has variable zoom and the Nikon camera has also a variable zoom.... estimate a round 20-30x effective magnifiation. xtxs2009
More pics.... Hey PL i think most of your worms are Maotianshania, but the top one in black color as you said shoud be a Paleoscolex i also have some worms from Chengjiang biota in well perservation. i am sure this is a Maotianshania I am looking for trilos and ammonites my blogmy fossils collection

Morphology wise both worms are similar except for minor differences in the tail region where there are hook like projections. Actually I think your worm could also be a Cricosmia jinningenensis ( posterior end one hook projection) as Moaotianshania cylindrica has posterior end 2 hook like projections. pleecan
Closer examination of my fossil plate ....the posterior end of the worm indicate the presence of one single hook like projection which points to Cricosmia jinningenensis.
