I learn something new every day .... Fordite is a 'mineral'

Hunh. 

 

Detroit Agate or Fordite .... is a super sweet man-made raw material. Once created by overspray on car bodies being painted. It is baked over time in the car ovens and creates this really trippy and highly sought after material. For making jewelry etc ...

 

I guess with automation of some of these tasks the creation of this rare material has ceased ?

I think its really cool, but I refuse to call it a "mineral".  Yes, Ford the motor company.  "Fordite" is the chunks of paint booth buildup.
