Lone Hunter
This sure looks manmade from distance but I question that because it's a separate layer. How could that have been made?
DPS Ammonite
Is that separate layer an adhesive? Try to see if it will soften up with alcohol, acetone, Goo Be Gone or like. Really looks manmade to me. 1 2 My goal is to leave no stone or fossil unturned. See my Arizona Paleontology Guide link The best single resource for Arizona paleontology anywhere. Ludwigia
I agree that it looks manmade. Where did you find this? Was there any evidence of human activity in the viscinity? Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Roger http://www.steinkern.de/
Lone Hunter
Found in a creek so there's no telling where it came from. I soaked it in acetone did nothing, held flame to it and did nothing, can barely scratch it or chip some off with knife. If it had been adhesive what could have made a pattern so small? Your suspicions are well founded. A fiberglass mesh is glued to the bottom of granite slabs used for kitchen countertops. Looks like someone dumped some construction debris upstream of where you found this fragment. It's amazing what trivial knowledge proves useful on this forum--even if it has nothing to do with fossils. Cheers. -Ken 7
