fifbrindacier
Hi everybody, i recently went on an Oxfordian site and wondered about that ammonite. I thought it was a Taramelliceras dentostriatum but the opening seems different. This, i hesitate between Taramelliceras dentostriatum and proscaphites. It's average size is about two centimeters. What do you think guys ? @Ludwigia ? Edited September 20, 2021 by fifbrindacier 2 "On ne voit bien que par le coeur, l'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux." Ludwigia
Hi Sophie, I'm afraid I can't be of much help to you here, although I do agree that this is a Taramelliceras. First of all, I can't make out the sculpture until all the matrix is removed. And secondly, there are so many different species of this genus and a lot of the French ones don't appear in Germany, so I couldn't say for sure anyway. Maybe @caterpillar or @herve could help you better. 1 Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Roger http://www.steinkern.de/

caterpillar
Proscaphites is a subtaxa of Taramelliceras But Taramelliceras dentostriatum is a good choice. http://www.paleotheque.fr
fifbrindacier
Thank you Dominique, that was m'y first impression. Do you think the opening is crushed and out of shape ? Concerning the matrix, i've put some of the ammonites in lye and water to wash them a little. "On ne voit bien que par le coeur, l'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux." caterpillar
Your ammonite is certainly not complete so the opening does not match http://www.paleotheque.fr
