Shellseeker
So, I am scanning a sieve for small fossils and up pops this fossil. At a minimum, it is the tip of a long bone, but there is the possibility for more. Two things got my attention.. The texture is not common for bone. and the break (last photo) seems suggestive of claw . Your thoughts... bone, rock, claw ? Although this is a creek, I was interested in the differences I see in deer tines I recovered from the Peace River. Those tend to be smoother than this on the outside , almost like enamel. and I have found many are ever smooth on the base. This was all likely due to water erosion. The tine below actually shows some of the inner material. I have often wonder if this one was modern. I had not recalled an example where the based had a cross sectional ridge, but anything can happen in the jumble of a river or creek.
